Thank you for being a part of the CORE Alberta community!

This month we will share some of the wonderful work and research being done around Age-Friendly Communities.

What does an age-friendly community look like, and how can we be conscious of age-friendly principles when designing a community? Building connected and supportive communities for older adults can have many meanings and possibilities. One way is to look deeper at dementia-friendly parkscommunities, and villages and how we build communities for people to age in place. Other questions to ask could be:

The World Health Organization released a new guide and toolkit in April 2023, providing a clear framework for developing age-friendly cities and communities. These support their previous resources around age-friendly cities and communities (2007 and 2010). Building an age-friendly community relies on many different layers and elements. Together we can look deeper at community design and develop strong community supports to make Alberta one of the best places to grow older.
