CORE Alberta News - March 30, 2023
Thank you for being a part of the CORE Alberta community!
International Transgender Day of Visibility is March 31. While we commonly talk about Cis, Trans, and Two-Spirit folks, there are around 94 gender identities in the world, and that does not include all the Indigenous identities. Older adults outside the gender binary also face unique systemic barriers that can affect their access to housing, transportation, healthcare, employment, food security, safety, and much more.
How can you support transgender seniors in your organization? Familiarize yourself with terminology, pronouns, and anti-oppressive, empowering, gender-inclusive language. Explore how there may be different or unique barriers to service for 2SLGBTQIA+ older adults in your area. Continue to learn and develop your knowledge of 2SLGBTQIA+ folks and expand your organizational policies, practices, and systems to be a safer and more supportive place for folks.
