Organizational Insurance Changes and Risks

news image

Like most things during the pandemic, non-profit insurance coverage has become increasingly complex due to the exponential growth in the risks associated with providing services in community, in particular to vulnerable populations such as seniors. In an effort to ensure that the community-based seniors serving (CBSS) organizations of Alberta are armed with the right information and protected from these potentially volatile changes, the CBSS Sector interim Community Leadership Council submitted a letter of inquiry to the Minster of Seniors and Housing requesting information on the Government of Alberta’s intention to protect service providers from potential liability risk related to COVID-19 transmission. To this inquiry, a response was received from Minister Josephine Pon indicating that the Government of Alberta is reviewing provincial legislative status on the matter and that this work is being led by the Ministries of Health and Justice and Solicitor General as a cross ministerial collaboration. We will share any developments on this advocacy effort as they become available.

In order to remain informed on this matter, we encourage you to attend a webinar and Q&A session with the Insurance Bureau of Canada coordinated by the Volunteer Alberta.
