[Webinar] Designing with Intention: Building from "What is Strong"

event and training image

Many community programs are built around perceived needs, often focusing on what is missing or lacking. This workshop invites participants to turn that approach on its head by beginning from a place of strength. We will explore how community programs can emerge or be strengthened through living knowledge circles, shared learning, and collective problem-solving. Working from lived experience and recognizing existing assets, knowledge, and skills available community‑based programs can be intentionally designed to create more meaningful, inclusive, and sustainable outcomes. We will discuss how grassroots-level initiatives can influence communities, regions, and the province.

We will also talk about how Healthy Aging Alberta’s Healthy Aging Framework, asset‑based approaches, learning spaces, and collaborative platforms help create a shared language and circulate knowledge so communities can adapt, test, and refine ideas in their local context.

Key takeaways:

- Keeping community development reciprocal and relational

- Strengthening models of co-creation and grassroots decision‑making processes

- Fostering knowledge circles and shared learning

- How intentional program design can deepen community impact

- Building from collective-strength to impact systems

- Creating ripples with any size initiative to make larger systems change

- Knowledge of Healthy Aging Alberta supports available to you

By shifting the focus from “what’s missing” to “what’s already here,” organizations can create programs that are more inclusive, responsive, and sustainable programs that grow “with” and “by” communities rather than being delivered “to” and “for” them.
