UNGANISHA: Explore. Connect. Dance.- Woezo Africa Music & Dance Theatre Inc.

We are exploring the importance of African origins in popular dance genres, this dance theatre production is a not-to-be-missed highlight for the 2023 Black History Month celebration in Calgary.
On February 25, 2023, the UNGANISHA: Explore. Connect. Dance. showcase will take you on a multimedia journey of dance, theatre, film and the history through HipHop and Tap while providing insight into their origins into the mainstream. This is the 6th iteration of the dance theatre production will present 13 participants from the July 2022 Black Arts Development Program 3 Week Dance Intensive. UNGANISHA is a Swahili word meaning “connect,” and connection is the sociocultural focus of this extraordinary project. UNGANISHA is an expression–through movement and storytelling–of the influence of various African cultural traditions on two familiar dance forms.
UNGANISHA: Explore.Connect.Dance. hopes to create an inclusive space where participants are invited to feel connected to the story, either through their own cultural heritage or simply as active agents in the modern world.
