Emergency Preparedness: Building Intergenerational Connections

Join the Intergenerational CoP for a wonderful session from Building Resilient Neighbourhoods in Victoria, BC, discussing Emergency Preparedness in relation to Older Adults. They will be sharing community impact stories from their "Connect and Prepare" program as well as research and evidence on the benefits of community and "who is in your kit" vs. "What is in your kit." What matters is the collective coming together as neighbours. Moving from traditional preparedness for large events, to "how can we come together as neighbours and create shared preparedness and resilience together," for all sizes of events, even small ones. They also discuss how to take an asset-based community development approach and rely on different community members' strengths, and empower residents to lead and take ownership over the projects. Resilient communities begin with connected, prepared, and caring neighbours.

Some of their key concepts in this session:

  1. How do we Connect more as neighbours
  2. Prepare for issues and emergencies together
  3. Care more about each other: building communities that naturally are more caring, supportive of each other, and resilient.

We will be diving into building Intergenerational Connections and share some impactful and inspiring stories!

It’s a relaxed and welcoming space to share ideas, ask questions, and be inspired by the power of generations coming together.
