Vaccine Report

Adult vaccinations are a core pillar of any preventive health strategy, drastically relieving the burden on our overtaxed acute healthcare system at astonishing cost savings to all levels of government.

This leads to an uncomfortable but inevitable question: why is only 3% of Canada’s older population protected against the easily preventable diseases that pose such a potentially fatal threat?

The impetus for the report comes out of a pressing need to bring attention to critical gaps gaps that are preventing vaccine uptake among seniors, especially against influenza, shingles and pneumonia—the three most common infectious illnesses that account for thousands of preventable hospitalizations and deaths in older people every year.

Medical experts are increasingly sounding an alarm that, if governments continue to under-prioritize their vaccination programs as the COVID-19 pandemic wears on, the results could be disastrous.
