Teaching Social Prescribing: An Educator’s Guide

resource image

Teaching Social Prescribing: An Educator’s Guide is a foundational resource for educators looking to develop courses on social prescribing—a transformative model in health and community care. This guide, developed by the Canadian Institute for Social Prescribing (CISP), equips educators with tools to engage students of the next generation of health administrators, clinical practitioners and community care providers in critical analysis and innovative solutions for health and well-being. Authored by Dr. Nicole D’souza, PhD, and edited by Safiya Clarke-Mendes, MPH, the guide builds on Dr. Kate Mulligan’s pioneering course, Social Prescribing in the City, offered through the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health in 2023. This guide also benefited from the thoughtful review and suggestions from Dr. Alayne Adams (McGill University), Dr. Kiffer Card (Simon Fraser University), Dr. Meghan MacGillivray (St. Francis Xavier University) and Dr. Kate Mulligan (University of Toronto).

By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement, this guide empowers educators to inspire dialogue on public health policy, systemic change, and health equity.
