PalliLearn: Palliative care education for everyone!

Build your capacity to support people who are sick, dying, caregiving and grieving by attending our virtual PalliLearn sessions this fall. PalliLearn is a series of short, interactive courses designed to develop your knowledge and confidence to offer meaningful support to the people in your community. These free courses blend research findings with practical ways to put these into action.


Anyone with a personal or professional interest in supporting people with serious illnesses is invited to attend the first four sessions. If you’re a health professional with palliative care experience we invite you to cap off the series by attending our facilitator training session which will equip you to deliver the courses in your community.


Session 1: Your Role in a Compassionate Community

Thursday, Sept. 12, 12 – 1:15 pm MT

Compassionate Communities are networks of support around people experiencing serious illness, death and grief. Gain information and ideas about how to nurture Compassionate Communities near you.

Session 2: What Matters Most?

Thursday, Sept. 19, 12 – 1:15 pm MT

Knowing what matters most helps us live well now and in the future. Learn how to identify and share what matters to you in your life and in your care, as well as how to find out and support what matters to others.

Session 3: What is Palliative Care?

Thursday, Sept. 26, 12 – 1:15 pm MT

Palliative care is more than you think. Learn what palliative care is and why it’s important in clear language that you can share with the people around you.

Session 4: How to Have Conversations About Dying and Grief

Thursday, Oct. 3, 12 – 1:15 pm MT

Conversations about dying and grief are important but can be hard. This course provides practical tips on how to have caring and compassionate conversations on these topics.

Session 5: PalliLearn Facilitator Training

Thursday, Oct. 10, 9 am – 12 pm MT

Attendance at this session is only open to Alberta-based health professionals with palliative care experience who have attended the PalliLearn series and are committed to facilitating a PalliLearn course over the next year. Completing this training will give you access to PalliLearn facilitator resources. Attendance at this session will be capped at 15 participants.
