Case Study: Saint John Stronger Together
This case study captures how Saint John, NB, has successfully broken the cycle of poverty by engaging the whole community and applying a comprehensive approach to drive change.
It highlights the city's 20-year journey that has resulted in a 69% reduction in poverty (Low Income Cut-Off After Tax) from 2001 to 2021.
It celebrates how the community of Saint John created a common purpose, learned deeply about poverty in their own community, implemented projects that they could turn into systems and population-level change.
The study also shares lessons from two decades of reflection that other community leaders can build upon.
