Care Partner Workbook: Respite Activity Toolkit
The Care Partner Workbook is a resource tool designed to assist caregivers and/or families in creating meaningful activities for their loved one during respite. This workbook is part of the Respite Activity Toolkit that the Edmonton Zone Home Living Recreation Therapists have created and are now sharing as a resource for community use. Although this workbook is designed as a tool for assisting in the creation of respite activities, in reality the activities can engage a care receiver at any time by their care partner, family members or friends. It has been designed to be user friendly, easy to understand, provide ideas for meaningful activities, present ways of adapting activities and provide worksheets as communication tools.
The Respite Activity Toolkit is part of a research project the Recreation Therapists have been working on since the spring of 2019. They started the study in January 2020 after receiving the Research Ethics Board and AHS approval. In March COVID-19 pandemic restrictions stopped the project in its tracks as Respite services through Home Care were put on hold to limit the spread of the virus; only essential services were being authorized at that time. They are patiently waiting to resume the study.
