The Canadian Community-Based Seniors’ Services (CBSS) Interim Community Leadership Council

HelpAge Canada and its partners are thrilled to announce the establishment of the Canadian Community-Based Seniors’ Services (CBSS) Interim Community Leadership Council. This Interim Council is designed to enable the CBSS community to affirm the governance structure, including HelpAge Canada as Backbone, and the Council’s vision, as it guides the work to develop and raise awareness for the CBSS sector in Canada. As the Backbone for this initiative, HelpAge Canada will support the Interim Community Leadership Council to fulfill its strategic vision.

The application process for new members of the Council is now open.

Applicants with experience/expertise through lived experience and/or those serving marginalized or under-represented groups, such as rural communities, LGBTQ+ older adults, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and newcomers are encouraged to apply. The Council will be representative of a diverse range of CBSS organizations, provinces and territories, and areas of expertise.

Nominees will be asked to commit to approximately 18 months, including five meetings, with two being in person, and will have the opportunity to stand for the permanent Council.

Please note that successful candidates must be available to attend the Council’s first in-person meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, June 5th in Ottawa, from 9AM to 12PM, directly following the national CBSS Sector Summit. Out-of-town members will be reimbursed for their travel expenses, including flights and one-night accommodation (June 4th). However, please be aware that the cost of the Summit ticket and accommodation for additional nights will not be covered, and members will be responsible for arranging and covering these expenses themselves.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the movement towards a coordinated, recognized CBSS sector in Canada. For more information, please refer to the Terms of Reference of the Canadian CBSS Interim Community Leadership Council or contact Gregor Sneddon at gsneddon@helpagecanada.ca. We ask that interested individuals complete the nomination form by April 12th, 2024. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the selection process by April 30th, 2024.
