More than 8M vaccine doses administered
More than eight million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered since December 2020, providing Albertans with critical protection against infection. This includes 89.7 per cent of Albertans aged 12 and older who have received one dose, 85.7 per cent aged 12 and older who have received two doses, and 158,000 children aged five to 11 who have received their first dose of pediatric vaccine.
With the arrival of the Omicron variant, and increased booster eligibility for all Albertans aged 18 and older, vaccine demand has surged. Since Dec. 7, thanks to the widespread availability through Alberta Health Services and community pharmacies, more than 1.2 million third doses have been administered.
All Albertans are encouraged to get whichever dose of vaccine they are eligible for in order to further protect themselves and keep Alberta’s health-care system from being overwhelmed.
