High inflation putting extra strain on seniors: advocacy group
High inflation is threatening to push more Canadian seniors below the poverty line, as they struggle to pay more for food, shelter, and transportation, says a seniors’ advocacy group.
In September, inflation rose to 4.4 per cent, the highest it’s been in nearly 20 years, according to Statistics Canada.
The cost of housing has gone up by 4.8 per cent in the past year, while food prices have increased by four per cent and transportation has risen by 9.1 per cent.
