Canadian Men’s Health Month: Minister Copping

news image

Minister of Health Jason Copping issued the following statement on Canadian Men’s Health Month:

“June marks Canadian Men’s Health Month. It’s an important reminder to men of every age and background that their health matters.

“Research suggests that men tend to focus less on their health and well-being than women focus on theirs. Men see their doctors less frequently and often put off attending to their physical and mental health needs.

“Many chronic illnesses that develop later in life for men are the result of lack of health-care monitoring earlier in life. Being aware of preventable health problems and early detection and treatment of diseases like prostate cancer, heart disease and depression will lead to a longer, healthier life.

“Exercise and small changes to your diet in consultation with your family physician can significantly improve your physical and mental health.

“As Alberta’s Health Minister, I encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury. Make health a priority.”
