Asian Heritage Month: Statement from Minister Aheer
Leela Sharon Aheer, Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women, issued the following statement on Asian Heritage Month:
“In May, we celebrate the long and rich history of the Asian community in Alberta, as well as the people who continue to immigrate here in search of new opportunities for their families and to create new homes. Almost 20 per cent of Albertans have Asian ancestry, showing just how integral Asian communities are to the strength of this province as a whole.
“Celebrating and sharing the diversity of cultures in our province helps us learn more about the world around us. It also creates stronger connections in our communities and helps us work together to build our province’s future. In light of recent acts of anti-Asian racism, we must also remember that we all share responsibility for creating a safe, inclusive province for all Albertans.
