Fall-proofing your home – Useful tips for older adults from The National Institute on Ageing
November is National Fall Prevention Month and we all have a role to play to better support older Canadians’ safety from this common problem that affects one in three older Canadians each year.
In Canada, falls are the leading cause of injury-related hospitalizations and injury deaths among people aged 65 or older. Half of all fall-related hospitalizations occur as a result of a fall at home.
Removing trip hazards or wearing non-slip footwear can prevent a potential broken bone, which thousands of older adults experience each year. By making some of these changes, you can lower your risk of falling and potentially avoid a trip to the emergency room for you or your loved one.
