Gord Johnston was appointed as the permanent Chief Executive Officer for Assisted Living Alberta as of Aug. 1, 2025.

Gord’s more than three-decade long career in public service spans across different levels of government and regional service delivery systems. His experience within the Government of Alberta includes roles as Chief Strategy Officer for the Human Services Ministry, and Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), for Child and Family Services and ADM for Advanced Education.

Before joining Assisted Living Alberta, Gord spent close to four years as Chief Executive Officer at Civida, the largest provider of community and affordable housing in northern Alberta. Believing in investing in people is the key to success, Civida was nationally recognized for its corporate culture following a large-scale organizational transformation which resulted in greater availability of affordable homes, housing supports, and significantly increased customer satisfaction.
