Alberta's historic heat wave last summer responsible for 66 deaths: report
The historic heatwave of 2021 resulted in 66 deaths across Alberta.
Calgary's Emergency Management Committee received these findings in a disaster risk report sharing information on how high temperatures resulted in increased energy consumption and water demand. A new disaster risk assessment will be completed in 2022, providing information that will help with policy and planning around climate change and its impact on vulnerable populations.
