Trainee developing app to detect depression—using speech
Mashrura Tasnim, PhD student in Computing Science at the University of Alberta and AGE-WELL trainee, is currently working on a research project that uses artificial intelligence to detect depression.
Tasnim, alongside her supervisor Dr. Eleni Stroulia, is developing a machine-learning model that can monitor a person’s emotional state based on the sound of their voice. The goal of the project is to produce an app that could be used to track indicators of mood, like depression.
