[News] Top 7 Over 70 recipients for 2026 announced

The Community Foundation of Southeast Alberta has announced the seven recipients of its 2026 Top 7 Over 70 awards, recognizing older adults who continue to make significant contributions to their communities.

The biennial program celebrates people over the age of 70 for their leadership, service, innovation and community impact.

The 2026 recipients are:

Uwe Karsten Krickhahn: At 91, Krickhahn has spent decades building and expanding a free online database that maps more than 110,000 locations across areas of present-day Poland and former Prussia and Pomerania. His research helps people trace changed family names, locate ancestral communities and reconnect with family history disrupted by the Second World War.

Terry Cooper: Cooper is the driving force behind Team Freewheel, repairing and refurbishing abandoned, unclaimed and donated bicycles for families and organizations in Medicine Hat and Redcliff. His work provides affordable transportation while helping people gain greater independence and access to employment, recreation and community resources.

David Carter: The 92-year-old author and former MLA continues to write, mentor and share his knowledge with others. Since turning 70, Carter has written extensively on history, politics and therapeutic and spiritual topics, with one of his books being used in nursing homes and with people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
