Congratulations to the Town of Innisfail, Town of Okotoks and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo on your Alberta Age-Friendly Recognition Award Alberta’s government officially recognized three communities for demonstrating their commitment to becoming more age-friendly and developing age-friendly action plan’s. On Friday, April 12, 2024, at the 25th annual Minister’s Seniors Service Awards held in Edmonton, three communities were recognized for demonstrating their commitment towards becoming age-friendly communities. Congratulations to the Town of Innisfail, Town of Okotoks and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, who are all supporting participation and healthy, active lifestyles for older adults and all citizens!


The Town of Innisfail, through use of their age-friendly action plan has made notable strides in enhancing age-friendliness by prioritizing outdoor spaces, improving transportation, offering diverse housing options, enhancing social participation, fostering respect and inclusion, encouraging civic and employment opportunities for seniors, and bolstering community support and health services, thus ensuring seniors' are part of an active and inclusive community.


The Town of Okotoks prioritizes age-friendliness with a robust and comprehensive plan addressing the needs of older adults across various dimensions, in particular housing, transportation, and social participation. This approach reflects a commitment to inclusive growth, accessibility, and well-being for all residents.


The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo demonstrates commendable commitment to creating a more age-friendly community with a vigorous and thorough plan to address housing, transportation, health services, social inclusion, and community engagement through collaborative strategic partnerships to ensure ongoing progress.
