Mental, physical health of Albertans nosedived during pandemic: doctors' group

Alberta physicians are confronting a “care deficit” after patient mental and physical health deteriorated over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

That’s the core finding of a recent survey by the Alberta Medical Association, which asked Alberta patients how their health had progressed since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

Nearly two-thirds of Albertans surveyed in late May reported a decline in their mental health during the pandemic, including 23 per cent who say their mental health is “much worse.” As well, slightly more than half of respondents said their physical health has declined since COVID-19 emerged.
