Nominate a youth, adult or senior volunteer who has contributed to the well-being of their community.


Overview


The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards recognize extraordinary Albertans whose formal volunteer efforts have contributed to the well-being of their community and fellow community members.

Formal volunteerism includes providing support without pay to:

  • charitable or non-profit organizations
  • causes
  • community development activities


Recognition of award recipients

Up to nine awards are given annually during a provincial ceremony hosted on or around International Volunteer Day (December 5).

All award recipients receive:

  • an engraved award
  • a framed certificate on behalf of the Government of Alberta
  • a detailed profile on the Stars of Alberta Awards recipients webpage for one year
  • acknowledgment through the Government of Alberta’s social media platforms


Nomination intake period

Nominations will be accepted from April 15 to June 30, 2024


Categories

The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards offers multiple categories to represent the diverse volunteerism landscape in Alberta’s communities.

Youth, adult and senior categories

Up to 2 awards may be given in each of these categories:

  • youth (up to 24 years old)
  • adult (25 to 64 years old)
  • senior (65 years old and over)

Breaking barriers category

The breaking barriers category recognizes exceptional volunteers who are working to create communities that are diverse and inclusive. One award may be given in each of these subcategories:

  • addressing racism (volunteerism to address racism or reduce barriers for racialized communities and/or increase and promote intercultural understanding and trust between communities)
  • advocating for 2SLGBTQQIA+ inclusion (volunteerism to promote 2SLGBTQQIA+ inclusion or address barriers for 2SLGBTQQIA+ people)
  • fighting gender discrimination (volunteerism to fight gender discrimination and reduce barriers for women, girls and gender-diverse people)
