LOCAL GRANTS ELIGIBILITY

AND APPLICATIONS


The local grant program provides financial assistance to community-based organizations across the country who are supporting caregiver directly. In 2025, we awarded 138 local grants to charities in 9 provinces.


FUNDING AREAS OF FOCUS


It’s our goal to positively impact the lives of family caregivers in communities across the country by providing operational support for local programs providing the following resources: 


  • Educational programs
  • Transportation
  • Meal assistance
  • Respite care
  • Emotional, financial and community support
  • Healthcare navigation to other types of vital assistance


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA


To be considered for this grant, each applicant must:


  • Be a registered Canadian charity
  • Be supporting family caregivers at the community level
  • Have the capacity to develop or continue work that is applicable to care partners in your community


EXCLUSIONS


We are unable to consider applications for the following:


  • Advertising
  • A professional sports group or team
  • Endowment funds
  • Fundraising campaigns or events
  • Religious purposes, except secular programs provided by faith-based organizations that are open to any person, regardless of their religious beliefs and without the requirement of a belief in a specific faith to receive services
  • Sponsorship of an event
  • Support for a specific individual, caregiver or family


AVAILABLE FUNDING


The Local grants are single year grants with a value of $7,500, and are accessible annually. Please note we are unable to extend a grant award or consider it beyond the year of award. We encourage applicants to factor sustainability into their project.


APPLICATION DATES & INFORMATION


The 2025 Local Grant application portal will open for 6 weeks from September 5 and close on October 17 by 11:59 pm Mountain Standard Time. Application and review process:


  • Application portal opens
  • Charities review the application guideline and eligibility
  • Eligible charities complete and submit an application through the portal (no email applications permitted)
  • CareMakers reviews applications
  • Award notification
  • Payment to grant recipient
