Applications Being Accepted
Applications are being accepted for the Indigenous Housing grant stream. Proposals will be accepted until 11:59pm on June 21, 2024. Contact AHIPgrant@edmonton.ca to set up a pre-application meeting.
The City of Edmonton is committed to re-establishing non-market affordable housing as critical infrastructure in every neighbourhood.
The Affordable Housing Investment Program provides limited grant funding to eligible non-profit and private sector entities to encourage affordable housing development. By acting as an initial funder, the City helps grant recipients overcome development barriers and attract investment from other orders of government.
Project Funding
Projects that may be considered for funding include:
- Affordable near-market rental
- Affordable homeownership (that is: rent-to-own)
- Mixed-income developments with an affordable housing component
- Mixed-use developments with an affordable housing component
- Permanent supportive housing developments
- Rent-geared-to-income/deep subsidy
Indigenous Housing Grant Stream
Indigenous people disproportionately experience homelessness and housing insecurity in Edmonton. Across the city, 1 in 4 renter households struggle to cover housing costs. Among Indigenous renter households, it’s 1 in 3.
The Affordable Housing Investment Program includes a grant stream specifically for Indigenous-led housing providers. It provides limited capital funding to Indigenous organizations to build new affordable housing units and/or rehabilitate existing affordable housing units.
The City provides up to 25% of total capital costs for affordable housing. Grants of up to 40% will be considered for proposals that include deep subsidies for priority groups, such as women and children fleeing domestic violence, exceed energy efficiency targets, and provide larger units.
