Community Initiatives Program (CIP), Operating (deadline January 30, 2024)
The Community Initiatives Program (CIP) Operating grant supports eligible non-profit organizations in their ability to operate and deliver services to the vulnerable and disadvantaged.
Program overview:
- Single Non-profit Organizations and Community Collaboratives
- Up to $75,000
- Two intakes per year - January 30 and July 15
- Core funding up to $60,000 must be fully matched through eligible community fundraising
- Organization Development Funding up to $15,000 does not have to be matched
- Organizations are eligible for funding once every three years. Eligibility is based on the date of the last CIP Operating funding approval.
- Organizations must take a minimum of one full year off from the date of their last grant expenditure until they can apply again.
- Organizations may only submit one CIP non-capital application per fiscal year. The fiscal year is April 1- March 31. The first intake of the new fiscal year is January.
- An organization may receive funding for one capital project and one non-capital project per Government of Alberta fiscal year through either CIP or the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP).
- Organizations should apply under the specific program stream that is best suited for their project.
- Organizations have up to 24 months from date of payment to expend grant funds and maximum 30 months to provide final reporting.
- Organizations must report on the outcome indicators in final reporting. See Appendix 1 of the guidelines for examples of indicators.
Social issues for the purpose of the CIP Operating grant stream include the following:
- Food Security
- Shelter, poverty, or homelessness
- Safety from violence, trauma, and harm
- Mental Health
- Addictions
- Physical or cognitive disability
- Isolated seniors
- Individuals in personal crisis
- Critical adult and children’s programming addressing basic life skills
- Individuals experiencing barriers or stigmatism due to race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or age
Applications from organizations whose primary mission and purpose do not clearly align with the CIP Operating outcomes in these Guidelines or the examples of social issues identified above are not eligible to apply.
