funding opportunity image

Connecting people with local food sources

Since 2012, Tree Canada has completed over 279 Edible Trees projects and planted over 21,900 fruit and nut trees in communities across Canada.

Eligible projects receive up to $10,000 in funding to cover the cost of purchasing and planting edible trees and shrubs, site preparation, tree maintenance, planting materials and developing education materials.

How It Works

After a project is selected to receive funding, Tree Canada is in touch to confirm details and pair you with a technical expert located nearby. This Forestry Specialist provides guidance, support and recommendations to help ensure the success of our projects.

All grant applicants are also invited to participate in a series of free webinars in April to guide them in selecting and preparing their planting site, choosing the appropriate species, and how to think about long-term care and maintenance.

Application Period

Grant applications are accepted from October to early December the year before project implementation. We inform applicants by the following March if their project has received a grant or not, and most projects are expected to be completed that same year.

Eligibility

Funding is available to educational institutions, Indigenous communities, community groups or gardens, food banks, community housing projects, municipalities, or other groups interested in planting edible trees on publicly accessible sites.

Amount

Up to $10,000 per project

Applications

Tree Canada’s Edible Trees program will be accepting applications from October 8 to December 1, 2025.
