Alberta Community Justice Grant (Deadline: Feb 29, 2024)

Grant purpose

The Alberta Community Justice Grant program helps:

  • build a framework to resolve legal issues within a community setting
  • improve coordination and enhance capacity of community-based programs working with criminal, family, and civil matters
  • support the development of community-driven alternatives to the formal legal system


Funding limits

Funding of up to $1,200,000 will be allocated for the 2023-24 fiscal period:

  • Not all applications will be funded.
  • Some applications might be recommended for a lesser amount.

Grants will be:

  • for one-time funding
  • from $5,000 to $25,000
  • paid in one installment


Eligibility

An applicant must be based in Alberta and any of the following:

  • registered not-for-profit organization or registered charity that is in good standing
  • First Nation, Métis Nation of Alberta or Metis Settlement
  • municipality
  • community group with a designated fiscal agent 

Ineligible applicants

  • individuals
  • academic institutions
  • for-profit organizations
  • Crown corporations
  • police services
  • publicly funded institutions
