THE OPPORTUNITY

This Request for Expression of Interest (REOI) invites organizations, who understand the importance of cohesive and effective local approaches that support healthy aging and enhance the quality of life for older adults to develop and administer an Age-Friendly Grant program.

Alberta Assisted Living and Social Services will issue grant funding up to $200,000 a year for three years, to an approved and interested organization to develop and administer an Age-Friendly Grant program.

A portion of the funds provided to the organization are to be allocated for program development and administrative costs, with the remaining funds distributed to eligible grant recipients.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The Age-Friendly Grant Program will enable communities to initiate or maintain efforts to become more age-friendly, by fostering healthy, active aging by promoting independence, improving accessibility to public spaces and services, encouraging social participation, and ensuring older adults have access to the supports they need.

Eligible grant program activities/projects:

  • Conducting comprehensive community needs assessments to identify and address barriers to aging in place.
  • The development or renewal of age-friendly community action plans.

A key objective of the Program is to help communities maintain efforts, and to increase the number of communities with formalized age-friendly plans, ensuring that more seniors benefit from coordinated efforts to support aging in place.

Grant funding could support communities’ direct project expenses such as personnel (hiring a full-time equivalent staff member or contractor), materials, community engagement activities, and evaluation.

Communities may require up to three years to execute and complete their project.
