On Aging: Canadian Conversations - Aging in Ethiopia with Sophia Mohamed

On Aging Canadian Conversations is a twice monthly series featuring discussions with thought leaders about timely topics on aging. Join us for the third and fourth Thursday of every month for a 30-minute break in your day to get informed and inspired.

The sixth episode this season will feature the work of Sofia Mohamed who will share some of the challenges older people face in Ethiopia, a country with no social security system.

Sophia is an economist by profession and holds a MSC in Economics. Over the past 20 years, she has gained extensive professional experiences in the areas of social protection, policy advocacy, social development and poverty reduction. Moreover, her professional career, has afforded her the opportunity to work with the community at a grass-roots level, with multilateral donors, national and international NGOs, and government bodies at different levels. Currently, she is working for HelpAge International Ethiopia Office as Senior Program Officer who is responsible for implementation and monitoring and evaluation of different programs that focuses on promoting the issues of older people towards building their capacity and enhancing their wellbeing. She aspires to see a world where older people can fulfill their potential in dignity and equality and in a healthy environment.
