Description / Summary
Elder abuse (EA), or the abuse of older adults, is recognized as a serious public health concern affecting a growing older adult population. Research examining risk management to combat this problem is limited but necessary to identify the interventions used and their efficacy. EA can be defined as “a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust that causes harm or distress to an older person” and includes five types of abuse: physical, sexual, psychological/ emotional, financial, and neglect.
