What is the 50-30 Challenge?

The 50-30 Challenge is an initiative of the Government of Canada to encourage all employers – private sector, public sector, and non-profit – to take up the challenge of diversifying their Boards of Directors and senior management teams, to ensure they are reflective of the vast array of available talent that Canada has to offer.

The challenge is premised on two aspirational objectives – Gender Parity (50% of board directors and senior management being women) and representation of other under-represented groups (racialized persons, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities and members of the LGBTQ2 community) at 30% of board directors and senior management).

What can you do?

The Federal Government is looking to organizations like yours, in your commendable efforts to drive greater diversity within your workforce, to take on the 50-30 challenge. The challenge will use a variety of means to measure progress and targets, recognizing the unique circumstances of different sectors, and types of organization. The Government is also offering a range of supports for the specific needs of small and medium enterprises to assist them in achieving their Challenge goals.
