Falls are the leading cause of injury among seniors.

  • 20-30% of seniors in Alberta will fall at least once a year.
  • Seniors falls cost $290 million in hospital admissions and emergency department visits
  • In 2019, there were almost 10,000 fall-related hospital admissions.

Finding Balance is an education program and public awareness campaign designed to educate and empower older Albertans to stay independent and prevent falls. The falls prevention program and campaign is developed and led by the Injury Prevention Centre at the University of Alberta, in partnership with seniors groups, health care organizations and practitioners from across Alberta.

Community partners, older adults, caregivers and practitioners can use the available resources to provide valuable information on falls prevention and take actions to prevent falls.

All of the resources are free and available to download at
