Malnutrition in Seniors during the COVID-19 Outbreak Study

Dr. Catherine Chan, Professor of Human Nutrition and Michelle Capicio, Nutrition Student at University of Alberta are conducting a research study to find out about the experience of seniors with social isolation or quarantine during the COVID-19 outbreak and its impact on their diet, nutrition, and general health. The study aims to learn what food-related resources and services are most useful during this isolation. Researchers provide participants with a package of information related to healthy eating and food resources, and conduct a follow-up survey. Participants may benefit from the information provided, such as ways to achieve a better diet or knowledge of available resources.

Seniors invited to participate in this research study must be 65+, living on their own or with a spouse or roommate (but not their children). Participants are being asked to complete two surveys, both taking about 30 minutes. Surveys may be completed by telephone or email. Participants can contact to set up taking the survey.

Please review the provided flyer and information letter for more information and to refer participants to the program. The results of the survey will be shared with the CORE Community once they are available through a panel presentation.
